Rare bird species appears for first time at Mount Tai

A rare bird species – Acrocephalus tangorum, also known as the Manchurian reed warbler – was spotted at Mount Tai Xihu Lake recently, local media reported.

The Manchurian reed warbler is domestically bred in Northeast China and lives in Northeast China, North China, and coastal areas in East China during their migration. It is a migrant bird that is rarely seen in Shandong province.

The Manchurian reed warbler is 14 centimeters long. During the breeding period, they often stay alone or in pairs, standing and singing on the tops of reeds or grass with their tails often upturned.

In recent years, the Mount Tai scenic area authorities have adopted the integrated mode of government efforts and volunteers to conduct bird observations, which has contributed to the protection of the biodiversity at Mount Tai.

With the improvement of Mount Tai's ecological environment, the species and numbers of birds observed are increasing. To date, Mount Tai has recorded a total of 368 species of birds.
